Wednesday May 29, 2019 Weather Update
Well, we squeezed out just a bit of sunshine today which is helping to bump our afternoon temps up!

*Something to watch* snowmelt will become an ever-increasing issue. No problems yet but as warmer days get hotter and more consistent, this will be something to watch
Details:
We started the day at about 40° and have been gradually warming and drying throughout the day. Thanks to the drying that is taking place right now from N-S, we can expect a mostly clear night with temps dropping into the lower 40s and upper 30s for most around the Urban Corridor. Mountain showers (and snow showers above 10,000') with stay through the evening.
Thursday looks promising with warmer temperatures and our typical afternoon clouds. Highs in Denver should jump to near or above 70°. There is the chance of a late afternoon or evening shower. Just keep that in mind if you have some evening patio plans. We will wake up Friday morning with temperatures in the lower 40s and have a mostly sunny day!
The weekend looks pleasant. Your more or less typical pattern will be setting up. Afternoon shower chances from storms that will roll off the mountains. So the mountains could expect some clouds and rain earlier in the day and then the adjacent Plains could expect the same. We have a relatively flat ridge that will stay over us this weekend allowing us to warm up and we'll have sufficient moisture coming in from the Gulf of Mexico to bring us some increased shower chances Saturday PM. Sunday looks the same with highs in the mid-70s.
Next week comes with 80s on Monday and a cold front scooching its way in for Tuesday and Wednesday meaning that more clouds, cooler (compared to the 80s) temperatures will be felt.

Has this month been cold to you? Maybe you'd say atypical? You're right! The month of May for Denver has seen an average temperature of 51.2°. That is 5.4° below our typical average May temp. Assuming we don't increase our average temp by .1 - .2° (which is entirely possible) we will finish out the month of May in the top 5 coldest Mays ever!
Precipitation has been pretty abnormal as well. This month we have already seen 3.22" of precipitation. That's snow and rain combined. Typical for the month we about 1.88" so as of now, Denver is 1.34" above normal - that's good! It helped eradicate our drought even further. For snow, Denver saw 3.9" this month. Average is 1.1". So even in the snow department, we are running above average. None of these numbers are close to records so nothing else to report in that department.
