Friday June 14 - Weather Update
YAY! It's finally Friday and finally the weekend.
As you've seen outside, it's cloudy and getting cloudier. There are numerous storms out on the Plains and in the mountains as well. Those are going to continue into the evening. There is a risk of severe weather in the Eastern Plains where a severe thunderstorm watch is in place. Already a few severe warnings out there. Large hail and strong winds are the main threat.
SUMMARY:
Through Sunday: Chance of storms. Some could be severe out on the Plains. Cooler.
Monday - Wednesday: Shower chances remain but lessen slightly. Warming.
Thursday-Friday: Should be dry and getting hotter.
DEETS:
So, as we head into a busy weekend for Denver, be on alert for the chance of showers and storms each day. Saturday is seemingly looking a little better for some. Denver, I can't rule out the chance of an afternoon storm for you but with some drying and downsloping winds, we may be okay. If we do get a shower or storm, it'll be in typically Colorado fashion and be in and out relatively quickly BUT there is a lot of moisture in the atmosphere so expect heavy rain with these showers.
Sunday will be very similar to Saturday. Shower chances are elevated again so the risk of rain and storms is there but the severe factor should be limited. Again, storms will likely produce heavy rain when they roll over. Highs both days this weekend will be in the low to mid-70s. Pretty atypical for this time of the year.
Next week, the overall pattern does not really change too much which is why we are keeping the threat of showers in the forecast through Wednesday. However, rain chances will dwindle as we creep to the middle of the week.
After that, the end of the week looks seasonal in terms of temps and we should be dry!
Snowpack update: Peak runoff is expected in the next 7-10 days which means that rivers and creeks and flow will be exceedingly fast and dangerous. The water is coming from snow so it will obviously be VERY cold and there are plenty of threats that come from being in cold water. This applies to people rafting or kayaking.
Snowpack melting and runoff will likely continue well into July but the peak runoff, like I mentioned, will be within the next two weeks.
