Monday June 3rd - Weather Update
Hey! I hope you had a great weekend.
We had a relatively active weekend. Some stronger storms moved through. One produced a weak tornado in far Eastern Colorado. We had some large hail reports and some big wind gusts out there too! I went chasing both days and found myself in some sticky situations but I was safe! Really got my adrenaline pumpin' though. I mention our weekend storm threat last we and I think it came to fruition nicely.
As you've noticed, it's been a pretty cloudy day. We have numerous storms across the state. A severe thunderstorm watch is in place through 9PM. Big storms are already happening. We've seen funnel clouds, some hail, and strong winds. This will continue for quite a for places out there. Just keep an eye on the weather. Shouldn't be anything widespread.
SUMMARY:
Wet weather (isolated storm/rain chances) remain through the week.
Below average temps and above normal precip
Watching snowpack closely
DEETS:
Much like today Wednesday and Thursday will feature morning sun followed by clouds and rain chances in the afternoon hours. There could be a few severe storms in the southeastern part of Colorado. Those will mainly have hail and strong winds.
The wet weather really continues through the weekend with isolated chances of rain staying with us. Nothing extremely organized will be moving in but the consistent afternoon storm chances will be there. And not just for the Plains either. Rain chances (not snow) go up for the mountains as well. It's just that time of the year. Watch out for more rapid snowmelt and for rivers and streams to be rising quickly as well. Between now and Friday, most of the state will see .20"-.75" of rain. Some of the heavier totals will be found under thunderstorms.
Snowpack again is at very healthy levels. Some of the numbers you may be seeing on social media seem dramatic but they're real! But some of them are compared to previous years when there was no snowpack or years when snowpack had already begun melting. Point is, the snowpack is healthy because of the lack of melting not because of new snow.
